Welcome to Knockabout in Historic City Market, a top destination for shoppers who appreciate artisan-made gifts, jewelry and home accessories.

From natural stone necklaces to meticulously made handbags and hand-turned writing instruments, our shelves are filled with creative ideas for gift giving — or for your own special wish list. You’ll find many items made by North Carolinians, as well as some by talented artisans living and working in other parts of the country.

Knockabout owners Michelle Lyon and Renee Elder Goldsmith get to know many of their featured artists while attending craft fairs and exhibits around the country, from upscale shows such as the Philadelphia Craft Market to guild sales at local fire halls.

Also, be sure to visit the Knockabout bakery inside the store. We serve freshly made cookies daily. Wedding cakes and other specialty pastry items are created to order by Ms. Lyon, an accomplished chef with more than a dozen years experience in the restaurant and bakery business.

Lyon and Goldsmith want everyone to know they are thrilled to be part of the City Market community. After operating in downtown Cary for two years, Knockabout relocated to Raleigh’s central business district in the summer of 2007. Downtown Raleigh is an exciting place to live, work and play, with new shops, offices and condo opening weekly. The city’s new 500,000-square-foot convention center and adjacent 400-room Marriott are set to open in 2008, just blocks from City Market. Private investors are also involved in downtown, with lots of innovative commercial and residential building-renovation projects underway throughout the area.

Always a great place to visit, City Market and the adjacent Moore Square park really buzzes on weekends, with festivals, live music and exhibits to complement our permanent collection of restaurants, shops and galleries. Along with free two-hour street-side parking, convenient, low cost parking is also available at the corner of Person and Martin streets, just behind our store.
