Shop Boy finds fluff

Some shops have a cat, maybe a dog, but here at Knockabout, we have a shop BOY. When not running his cars around, making important business calls, or reading aloud, he loves the fluff! Yesterday he was riding a 5 lb bag of fluff when it came open, and WHOA, next thing we know, our shop boy was swimming in the fluff. Floating in the clouds. Partying in the polyfil. Whatever you want to call it, our shop boy always makes us laugh and we are glad we have him.

Not a NO THANK YOU in sight.

Der, I can change the title if I wanna.

Buy Me A Drink

Courtney got a new home on First Friday! She has been hanging out at Knockabout, drinking and smoking, for about a year. Finally, her soulmate arrived, purchased her (hussy) and took her on home. I hope they can afford her expensive habits. She’s a rough old babe, but I will miss her.

Move in day (3 months ago)

June first Knockabout converted to shared studio space with a retail area in the front of the shop. I am proud to announce the addition of Brandi Bowen of Creativ*Bee, Tracy Antonik of Photo Glass works, Fantasic works of art by Kelly Green and Melody Facey and the ever popular and bossy Kiona van Rhee-Wilson, owner and designer of Lucky Jewelry.
Come in and check us out. Along with all the in house works of art, Knockabout still features the works of about 25 local artist.

Who knew?

Instead of telling you what’s new at Knockabout, I would like to first discuss that fact that even I can update my own website. How exciting. My family had lead me to believe that only smart people with super computer know how could update a complex blog like this. *sigh*.

Stay tuned for more random updates.

Knockabout has moved!

XL Fancy

Knockabout has moved to its new location in City Market. There are some new pictures of the shop here. Come on down to City Market and see the new space in person! Don’t forget that First Friday in Raleigh is on March 6th.

We’re Moving…

…but just down the street! Knockabout is moving from 317 Blake Street to 311 Blake Street. The peculiar pets and gifts you know and love will be making the trip, so come on down to City Market and see the new space!

Where are we going?

A Valentine’s Day Update

Make your Valentine happy with a Fantasy Clock by Richard Birkett. These clever Rube Goldberg-like contraptions amuse, entertain and keep perfect time, too. Birkett’s clocks are built with objects such as vintage slide projectors, music boxes, typewriter parts, old photographs, gears and wheels. Each is an individual statement that will keep on giving throughout the year!

Other romantic choices for your sweetheart include fabulous birdhouses from Asheboro crafter Mike Shinn, silver and beaded jewelry by Paige Innerarity, copper photo albums by Four Paws, evocative paintings by Seung Parker and colorful collage works by Patricia Leight. Or choose a handbag handcrafted from a 33-rpm record. The purses, from Three Sisters workshop, are included in our once-a-year Orange Dot Sale. We also have a wide selection of pottery, housewares, garden art and jewelry marked at 30% off.

While you’re here, don’t forget to pick up some handmade soaps and candles along with a vintage-fabric Peculiar Pet pillow to help you stay warm and cozy through these long winter nights.

Fantasy Clocks

Fantasy Clock

Just in time for Christmas, a whole batch of brand new Fantasy Clocks have arrived from the workshop of Richard Birkett in Otego, New York. These clocks, more gizmo than timepiece, take the phrase “bells and whistles” to a whole new level.

Spotlight: Mike Shinn’s Birdhouses of Distinction

Green and Beige Birdhouses of Distinction

Mike Shinn has just brought us more of his lovely Birdhouses of Distinction to help us gear up for the holiday season. These houses are lovingly constructed from reclaimed barn and building parts by hand and look amazing outdoors in use, or on display in the home.
